Supplement: Ancillary Service Endorsements
Ancillary Service Endorsements are short-hand requests you can print on any piece of mail that instruct the USPS on how to handle the mail if it is undeliverable for any reason. A full explanation of these endorsements can be found below. By using any endorsement, the mailer is obligated to pay any associated fees and applicable postage.
Since the USPS uses Optical Character Readers (OCR's) to process most mail automatically, they have instituted some placement and printing standards for endorsements. You will find those below the table.

* Single Piece Postage Rate: .34 for first ounce and .21 for each additional ounce up to 13 ounces.
** Weighted Fee: .34 x 2.472 for first ounce, .21 x 2.472 for each additional ounce up to 13 ounces.
"undeliverable" means there was an error in the address such as an incorrect street name, or missing information like an apartment number. The address was either insufficient or incorrect enough that delivery was not possible.
Placement and Printing Standards for Ancillary Endorsements
If the endorsement is not printed in a way that meets these criteria it is possible that the service requested will not be performed.
1) First and foremost with these services is a return address must be present on the mail piece on the same side as the address. It must be placed in the upper-left corner and printed in the same direction as the address
2) The endorsement must be printed in no smaller than 8 point type and clearly stand-out against the color of the piece. There must be a one quarter inch space around the endorsement. There are four acceptable placements for the endorsement:
