Meet The New Postal Reform Commission
A Presidential Commission on the United States Postal Service has been established to make
recommendations on the future of the USPS. The last postal reform legislation was
enacted in 1970. Since then, the marketplace and technology have evolved to the point that continued operation of the
postal service under the 33-year-old law is not viable.
Commission members include:
The commission is to report to the President its recommendations by July 31, 2003.
Paper Direct Marketing Not Displaced
In his latest column, Dan O'Rourke, editor of Mailing Systems Technology, reminds us of the doom
internet and telephone marketers predicted for direct mail marketing. When comparing it to telemarketing
and email spam, he describes direct mail advertising as "fairly non-obtrusive target advertising." Probably
why the industry has such a stronghold and will not be easily replaced.
Just how strong is the direct marketing industry? O'Rourke adds that direct mail advertisers spent
approximately $48 billion last year. Also, the mailing industry is the anchor of the $900 billion domestic
mail industry which provides for every 1 of 15 jobs in the US.
You can read Dan O'Rourke's column, and many other industry-related articles in the February issue of
Mailing Systems Technology.

Over the next few months, we'd like to introduce you to some of our brightest stars. This issue begins our
Employee Spotlights.
Our first star is actually an artist. A Data Processing
artist and a graphical artist. Here at CCI we believe
that great data processing is not a science, but an art. A great mailing starts with a great mailing list,
and that is the core of MCAP, the exclusive mailer savings
plan.
