Print And Database Trivia
Did you know...

The USPS reports that 17% of the U.S. population changes address each year. In address changes alone, your database is decaying at a rate of 1.4% each month.

Victor Forman, founder of DQMAX, reports that 10% duplicate records is not uncommon, even in databases of more sophisticated companies. Forman suggests that mailers would budget and market to one million customers when, in reality, their database only contains 900,000 unique consumers.

45% of all printed products are distributed by mail.

770,000 businesses send bulk mail.

The USPS delivers mail to 138 million addresses and that number grows nearly 2 million each year.

There are approximately 900,000 postal employees working at 38,000 USPS facilities.

567 million pieces of mail are handled each day.

In 2002, 5.5 billion pieces of mail were undeliverable.

The USPS delivers 9 billion periodicals each year.

In 2002 and 2003, the USPS handled over 202 billion pieces of mail.

* Data statistics are from Victor Forman, founder of DQMAX, a data quality and security firm, and former vice president of data quality and postal affairs for Group 1.

* Print and mailing statistics were gathered from MAIL: The Journal of Communication Distribution.
